FileVault is a feature of Mac OS X 10.3 that allows you to secure files in your home directory by encrypting them. When FileVault is turned on, files in your home directory are encrypted and decrypted as needed. If you use FileVault and you're capturing video with Final Cut Pro or Final Cut Pro Express, you should not capture to your home directory. Doing so puts a large strain on the computer's microprocessor and could cause the applications to drop frames during capture, or skip them during playback.
