iChat 4.0 Help
Requirements for video effects and backdrops
If your computer meets certain requirements, you can change the video effect or backdrop of a video chat.
Requirements for video effects (also called Photo Booth Effects):
Macintosh computer with an Intel processor, or a multiprocessor PowerPC computer with a graphics card that supports Core Image hardware acceleration
High-speed broadband Internet connection that supports at least 128K bits per second for both downloading and uploading
Requirements for backdrops:
Macintosh computer with an Intel processor
iSight camera, or a camera with fixed focus and exposure and white balance
High-speed broadband Internet connection that supports at least 128K bits per second for both downloading and uploading
To see what type of processors are in your computer, choose Apple menu > About This Mac.
To find out if your graphics card supports Core Image hardware acceleration, choose Apple menu > System Profiler, and then click Graphics/Displays in the Hardware section. The list should include the line, “Core Image: Hardware Accelerated.”
To find out the speed of your Internet connection, contact your Internet service provider (ISP), or refer to the literature your service provided. Note that the speed listed in the service provider’s literature is a maximum speed; the actual speed may be lower.
