Keyboard shortcuts

You can use your keyboard to quickly accomplish many tasks in iCal. To find the shortcuts for common commands, look in the menus (or see the menu shortcuts below). To do an action, press the keys indicated below.

Calendar shortcuts

Go to the next day, week, or month

Command-Right Arrow

Go to the previous day, week, or month

Command-Left Arrow

Move the calendar view up or down

Up Arrow or Down Arrow

View the events on a calendar

Click the calendar's checkbox

Select or deselect the selected calendar in the Calendars list

Spacebar

Select or deselect all the selected calendars in the Calendars list

Command-click any calendar's checkbox

Create a new calendar group

Shift-click the Add (+) button

Event shortcuts

Select the next event or To Do item in the main calendar view

Tab

Select the previous event or To Do in the main calendar view

Shift-Tab

Move an event to another calendar

Control-click the event, then choose a calendar from the pop-up menu

Move the selected event to the next day

Control-Right Arrow

Move the selected event to the previous day

Control-Left Arrow

Move the selected event 15 minutes earlier; all-day events move one week earlier (only in Month view)

Control-Up Arrow

Move the selected event 15 minutes later; all-day events move one week later (only in Month view)

Control-Down Arrow

In Day or Week view, make the selected event end 15 minutes sooner

Shift-Control-Up Arrow

In Day or Week view, make the selected event end 15 minutes later

Shift-Control-Down Arrow

In month view, move the selected all-day event one week later

Control-Down Arrow

In month view, move the selected all-day event one week earlier

Control-Up Arrow

Make the selected all-day event last one more day

Shift-Control-Right Arrow

Make the selected all-day event start one day sooner

Shift-Control-Left Arrow

iCal menu shortcuts

Open iCal preferences

Command-comma

Hide the iCal application

Command-H

Hide all other applications

Option-Command-H

Quit the iCal application

Command-Q

File menu shortcuts

Create a new event

Command-N

Create a new To Do

Command-K

Create a new calendar group

Shift-Command-N

Show or hide the event editor for the selected calendar, event, or To Do item

Command-I

Close the iCal window

Command-W

Print calendars and To Dos

Command-P

Edit menu shortcuts

Undo your last action

Command-Z. You can repeatedly press Command-Z to undo each of your actions in reverse order. To see which action you can undo, open the Edit menu.

Redo your last action

Shift-Command-Z

Cut the selected text or event

Command-X

Copy the selected text or event

Command-C

Paste the cut or copied text or event

Command-V

Select all text or all events in the current calendar

Command-A

Duplicate the selected text or event

Command-D

Edit Event

Command-E

Make the iCal search field active

Command-F

Subscribe to a calendar

Refresh the selected calendar

Command-R

Refresh all published or subscribed calendars
