Setting up Mac OS X Mail to receive your MobileMe email

The steps you follow to set up Mac OS X Mail to receive your MobileMe email depend on which version of the Mac OS you’re using.

Important: For the instructions below, use the following: the MobileMe Mail incoming mail server is “mail.me.com” and the outgoing mail server is “smtp.me.com.”

To set up Mac OS X Mail to receive MobileMe mail:

If you’re using Mac OS X version 10.4.11 or later:

  • Open Apple menu > System Preferences.

  • Click MobileMe (if you’re using Mac OS X version 10.5.3 or later), or .Mac (if you’re using version 10.4.11 to 10.5.2), and enter your MobileMe member name and password.

  • Open Mac OS X Mail, choose Mail > Preferences, and then click Accounts.

  • Click the Add (+) button at the lower-left of the Accounts pane. Choose MobileMe from the Account Type pop-up menu, and then enter your account information.

The member name and password you use for SMTP authentication must match the member name and password in the User Name and Password fields.

To switch to POP, delete the existing IMAP account before you create the new POP account. Choose POP Account from the Account Type pop-up menu instead of MobileMe Account.
