Viewing messages on multiple computers

If you have a POP account and you need to access messages from more than one location or computer, you can set Mail to leave a copy of your incoming messages on the mail server.

To access messages from multiple computers:

Step 1

Choose Mail > Preferences, and then click Accounts.

Step 2

Select a POP account.

Step 3

In the Advanced pane, deselect the “Remove copy from server after retrieving a message” checkbox.

Step 4

Retrieve your messages from multiple locations or computers.

Messages you’ve already read and deleted on one computer may appear as new messages when you retrieve them again using another computer.

The copies will take up more space on the POP mail server. To free up the space, delete the messages from the server after you’ve retrieved them by clicking the Remove Now button in the Advanced pane of the Accounts pane of Mail preferences.

To access messages from more than one location or computer on a long-term basis, change your POP account to an Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) account. With an IMAP account, you can view your messages, but leave a copy of them on the remote email server, so the messages can be accessed from different computers.
