Setting the time till shutdown on an uninterruptible power supply

You can reduce the risk of losing data during a power outage by using an uninterruptible power supply (UPS). In the event of a power failure, a UPS provides power, stored in batteries, to your computer for a time. This gives you time to save your work.

Some UPS devices just run until the battery is expended and then shut down. Other UPS devices can be connected to the computer’s USB port and configured using Energy Saver preferences.

To change the settings for your UPS:

Step 1

Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Energy Saver.

Step 2

Click UPS.

Step 3

Select a method for the computer to determine when to shut down in a power outage. Then use the slider to set the time or power level for the computer to shutdown.

If you choose more than one option, the computer will shut down when the first option’s condition is met.
