Shutting down your computer automatically

You can schedule your computer to turn on or off, or go to sleep. You might do this if you want to be sure your computer turns off when you aren’t working and turns on before you come to work.

To turn your computer on or off automatically:

Step 1

Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Energy Saver.

Step 2

Click Schedule.

Step 3

Select the options you want to use.

To schedule a start up or wake up time for your computer, select the “Start up or wake” checkbox. Choose a day or group of days from the pop-up menu, and then specify a time.

To schedule a shut down time for your computer, select the bottom checkbox and choose Shut Down from the pop-up menu. Choose a day or group of days from the pop-up menu, and then specify a time.

To schedule a sleep time for your computer, select the bottom checkbox and choose Sleep from the pop-up menu. Choose a day or group of days from the pop-up menu, and then specify a time.

Your computer shuts down automatically at the scheduled time if you are logged in. If you are not logged in, your computer will not shut down at the scheduled time. Also, your computer must be awake to shut down automatically.
