Mac OS X 10.5 Help
Adding or removing third-party system preferences
You can add preferences created by companies other than Apple to the System Preferences window, or you can remove them from the window. These are called “third-party” preferences. For example, you might use third-party preferences to customize settings for a third-party hardware device.
Some third-party software may use an installer to install the software. Third-party software may also require the use of an “uninstaller” to completely remove it. Check the documentation that came with the software and the manufacturer’s website for complete information.
To add or remove system preferences:
To install a third-party preference, download or drag the third-party preference to your hard disk, and double-click its icon. If you want all users of your computer to be able to use this preference, install it for all users.
To uninstall a third-party preference, press the Control key and click the preference icon in the System Preferences window, and then choose Remove.
Third-party system preferences are usually located in the PreferencePanes folder in the Library folder, unless they were installed in a different location.
