Changing your password

Normally you must type a password to log in to the computer. This is called your account password or login password.

If you are the administrator of your computer, you can change your account password and also the passwords for other user accounts.

To change an account password:

Step 1

Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Accounts, and then click Password.

Step 2

If the preferences pane is locked, click the lock icon and enter an administrator name and password.

Step 3

Click Change Password.

Step 4

Enter your current password in the Old Password field.

You can use Password Assistant to help you pick a safer password. Click the key at the right of the New Password field. When you enter your password, the Password Assistant displays how safe it is.

Step 5

Enter your new password in the New Password field.

Step 6

Enter your new password again in the Verify field.

Step 7

You can enter a hint in the Password Hint field the password. If the wrong password is entered three times in the login window, the hint will be displayed.

Step 8

Click Change Password.
