Mac OS X 10.5 Help
Using and remembering passwords
If you’re having trouble keeping track of passwords, try these solutions.
Recovering after forgetting a password
If you’ve forgotten the password you use to log in to your computer, ask the administrator to create a new password for you.
If you are the administrator (or only user) of the computer, or if you’ve encrypted your home folder and forgotten that password, the links below will help.
If you’ve forgotten a password for a website, server, or application, read “Using keychains and Keychain Access,” next.

Using keychains and Keychain Access
The Mac OS X keychains remember passwords for applications, servers, websites, and more. If an item’s password is stored in a keychain, then the password is supplied for you when you open the item. You can also sometimes look in a keychain for passwords you’ve forgotten.
It’s normal to see messages asking you to unlock a keychain or allow an application to use it. This often happens when you update software and a keychain needs new instructions.
