Connecting to the Internet using a cable modem

To set up your cable modem connection, you need a few basic pieces of information from your Internet service provider (ISP).

Gather your ISP settings:

  • Your user or account name and password
  • Whether to configure TCP/IP manually or using DHCP
  • Your IP address (manual configuration only)
  • Your DHCP Client ID (for some DHCP configurations)
  • Your Domain Name System (DNS) server address

If you don't know where to find this information, call your ISP or cable provider.
