Getting information about your computer

Get information about your computer, such as the hardware and software installed, the serial number and operating system, how much memory is installed, and what peripheral devices are connected, by using System Profiler.

If you call Apple Support, you may be asked to provide information from System Profiler to help diagnose your problem.

You can send your profile to Apple and it will be available to Apple Support. If you call Apple with a problem, your profile will help Apple diagnose and find a solution.

  1. Choose Apple menu > About This Mac.
  2. Click More Info to open System Profiler. (Or open the Apple System Profiler application located in /Applications/Utilities.)
  3. Click the topics on the left to see the information you're looking for. To see more detail, click the triangle next to an item.
