Turning a screen saver on or off

You can choose when to start a screen saver, or you can turn it off completely. A screen saver starts after the computer is inactive for a certain amount of time. If you press a key or move the mouse, the screensaver will stop.

You can also use "hot corners" to start the screen saver immediately or deactivate it.

  1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Desktop & Screen Saver.
  2. Click the Screen Saver button, then adjust the slider to set the amount of time before a screensaver starts.
  3. If you don't want a screen saver to start at all, set the slider to Never.

  4. To set up hot corners, click the Hot Corners button.
  5. Choose an action (Start Screen Saver or Disable Screen Saver) from the pop-up menu for a corner you want to use.

For extra security, you can require a password to turn off a screen saver. In System Preferences, click Security and select "Require password to wake this computer from sleep or screen saver."
