I forgot a password in my Keychain

If you forget a password that has been stored in Keychain Access, you can have Keychain Access decode it and display it for you.

IMPORTANT: Take care not to forget the password for your keychain.

By default, the keychain password is the same as your user account password.

To display your passwords in Keychain Access:

  1. Open Keychain Access located in Applications/Utilities, and click the Passwords category. If you want to reduce the number of passwords in the list, click the triangle next to the Passwords category and choose the type of password.
  2. Double-click the password you want to display.
  3. Select the "Show password" checkbox.
  4. Enter your keychain password.
  5. To display your password just this time, click Allow Once. Or, to always display your password in Keychain Access, click Always Allow.
