Mac OS X 10.4 Help
Connecting to a network that requires 802.1X authentication
You can connect to an AirPort or Ethernet network that is protected by the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) 802.1X standard. The 802.1X standard is designed to enhance the security of local area networks.
In most cases your network administrator provides a user name and password you use to authenticate with the network. Follow the instructions below to enter the information in the Internet Connect application.
To connect to a network protected by 802.1X:
- Open Internet Connect (located in the Applications folder).
- Choose File > New 802.1X Connection.
- Choose a configuration from the Configuration pop-up menu. If there is not a configuration available, choose Edit Configurations, and create a new configuration. Enter the information you received from your network administrator.
- Choose AirPort or Built-in Ethernet from the Network Port pop-up menu. If you selected AirPort, choose an AirPort network from the Wireless Network pop-up menu.
- Enter the name and password for the network if necessary.
- Click Connect.
You can click the Add (+) or Delete (–) button at the bottom of the Configuration window to add or remove configurations.
You can export and import configurations into Internet Connect. For more information, click the link below.
