Taking a picture of a menu

You can take a picture of a pull-down or pop-up menu using Grab.

  1. Open Grab (located in /Applications/Utilities).
  2. Choose Capture > Timed Screen.
  3. When the Timed Screen Grab dialog opens, click Start Timer.
  4. Click the menu you want to capture and keep it open until the Timed Screen Grab dialog closes (in about 10 seconds) and the picture appears in a separate window.

The picture will show the entire screen, including the menu you held open. To help the menu stand out in the image, close, move, or hide any other windows that aren't needed before you take the screen shot.

If you want a pointer to appear in your screen shot, make sure that a pointer type is selected in Grab Preferences. When you take your screen shot, the pointer appears where you are holding it when the screen shot is taken.
