As your software runs it sends messages between the applications, systems, and components. This information is stored in message logs. Use Console to view the message logs of your system and applications.

These logs include the messages you see in alert dialogs, errors, and many other messages that are never displayed. If you've received an error message, a log file may show additional detail about the issue.

You can view log files in Console, located in /Applications/Utilities.
