Customizing the Printer List in Printer Setup Utility
The Printer List in Printer Setup Utility displays information about the printers that have been set up for your computer. You can add columns to the Printer List to display additional information, such as the name of the printer's "host" computer and the location of the printer.
- Open Printer Setup Utility, in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder.
- To show or hide information in the Printer List, choose View > Columns, and then choose an item from the submenu:
In Menu displays whether the printer appears in the Printer menu in the Print dialog.
Kind displays the type of the printer.
Host displays the name of the computer that's "hosting" or sharing the printer.
Status displays the current status of the printer. Stopped indicates that the printer's print job queue is stopped. If you want to continue to print, select the printer and choose Printers > Start Jobs.
Location describes where the computer is located. The user who sets up the printer specifies the location, so you may not see a location listed. It's a good idea to provide a location for network, shared, and Bonjour printers so that other users can find their documents.
Jobs displays the number of print jobs pending for the printer. These may be print jobs that are waiting to start printing or that are being held.
You can change settings for a specific printer in the Printer Info window. To open the Printer Info window, select the printer in the Printer List and choose Printers > Show Info.
Use a printer's Jobs window to monitor, pause, or delete print jobs. To open a printer's Jobs window, double-click the printer in the Printer List.
