Connecting to a Virtual Private Network
You can use Internet Connect to connect to a virtual private network (VPN) using PPTP (Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol) or "L2TP over IPSec" (Layer Two Tunneling Protocol) on an existing Internet connection.
For help setting up a VPN connection, click the link below.
PPTP allows corporations to extend their own corporate network through private "tunnels" over the public Internet.
L2TP is an extension of the Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol used by Internet service providers to enable a VPN over the Internet.
IPSec (Internet Protocol Security) is a set of security protocols.
To connect to a VPN:
- Open Internet Connect, located in the Applications folder.
- Click the VPN icon in the toolbar.
- Choose the type of VPN connection, either "L2TP over IPSec" or PPTP.
- Choose a configuration from the Connect pop-up menu, then click Connect.
To create a second VPN configuration, choose File > New VPN Connection.
