Using an Apple Wireless Keyboard and Mouse

The Apple Wireless Keyboard and Mouse use Bluetooth to communicate with your Mac without wires, which gives you a new level of freedom to use them where you want. With a wireless keyboard and mouse, you can sit back and relax while you type and click through your work.

To set up an Apple wireless keyboard or mouse:

Open Keyboard & Mouse preferences and click Bluetooth. Click Setup New Device and follow the onscreen instructions to pair with your wireless mouse and keyboard. First pair with your mouse, and then pair with your keyboard.

Tips and tricks for using a Bluetooth wireless keyboard and mouse:

  • Your Wireless Keyboard and Mouse come with AA batteries included. Your Keyboard and Mouse software will warn you when the batteries are running low, but it's a good idea to have a spare set of batteries available.
  • When you pair with your mouse and keyboard, your computer gives them a unique name. You can change the name in the Bluetooth pane of Keyboard & Mouse preferences.
  • If you won't be using your mouse or keyboard for an extended period of time, turn them off to maximize battery life. To turn them off, use the on/off switch on the bottom of the mouse and keyboard.
  • If you are setting up more than one keyboard and mouse, pair one keyboard and one mouse with a single computer. Don't use one computer to set up more than one keyboard and mouse.
