Forcing a full backup

The first backup of a particular set of files is a full backup (all files are backed up). Subsequent backups are incremental—that is, only the changed files are backed up. Incremental backups take up less space than full backups.

You can force Backup to do a full backup at any time. For example, if you regularly back up to CDs, you might want to start over with a complete backup so that the restore process requires fewer CDs. Or, if you run out of space on your destination, you can delete your incremental backups and do a full backup.

To force a full backup:

  1. Select the plan (in the Backup window or the plan window).
  2. Choose Plan > Full Backup.

After you complete a full backup, you can safely delete any previous incremental backups you have.
