Using your iPod as a backup disk

You can use your iPod as a FireWire hard disk and select it as a backup destination. First you need to prepare your iPod for use as an external hard disk.

You can also connect your iPod to a USB port on your computer.

To use your iPod as a hard disk:

  1. Connect your iPod to your computer and open iTunes.
  2. In iTunes, choose iTunes > Preferences and click iPod.
  3. Select "Enable disk use." (Depending on your version of iTunes, you may have to click General before you can select this option.)

The iPod icon appears on your desktop, and you can select it as a backup destination.

IMPORTANT: Before you disconnect your iPod from your computer, unmount it by selecting its icon in the iTunes Source list and clicking Eject (or by dragging the iPod icon on the desktop to the Trash).
