Synchronizing Address Book with Exchange

If your network supports it, you can synchronize your address book with Exchange 2000 using Outlook Web Access (OWA), a web service that provides access to your email and contacts. OWA is required to synchronize Address Book with Exchange. Address Book provides an iSync conduit that communicates with Exchange using OWA.

Check with your network administrator or IT personnel for your Exchange user name, password, and the Outlook Web Access server address. You will access your Outlook Web Access server with a web browser at a URL similar to this: www.myserver.com/exchange/UserName

In Address Book's Exchange preferences, only enter the hostname portion (www.myserver.com) in the Outlook Web Access Server field.

Active Directory provides a mechanism for authenticating to various network resources, including Outlook Web Access. If your network administrator set up Active Directory on this computer using Directory Access, Address Book might not need a user name and password. It will use the information you entered when you logged in.

To set up Address Book to synchronize with Exchange:

  1. Open Address Book and choose Address Book > Preferences.
  2. In the General pane, select "Synchronize with Exchange" and click Configure if necessary.
  3. Enter your Exchange user name, password, and Outlook Web Access server address.
  4. Select "Synchronize every hour" if you want hourly synchronization.

To manually synchronize Address Book and Exchange, open iSync (located in the Applications folder), choose iSync > Preferences, select “Show status in menu bar,” and choose Sync Now from the iSync status menu.

Address Book will synchronize with Exchange Server 2000. It will not synchronize with Exchange 5.5 or earlier.
