If you have problems importing a contact into Address Book, make sure it is a vCard, LDIF, or tab-delimited or comma-separated value (CSV) text file. LDIF formats are produced by Netscape. vCard formats are produced by Palm desktop, Entourage, Outlook, and iPod. Most database applications can export tab-delimited or CSV text files.

To verify the kind of document you are trying to import, select the document in the Finder, and then choose File > Get Info. The field at the top of the list displays the kind of document.

If you can't import because of permission errors, choose File > Get Info. Choose Read & Write from the "You can" pop-up menu in the Ownership & Permissions part of the window.
