AddressBook 4.0 Help
Addresses are missing after upgrading Mac OS X
When you upgrade Mac OS X, your address book is usually imported automatically to your new system. However if you do an "Archive and Install" without selecting the "Preserve Users and Network Settings" or an "Erase and Install," or you install Mac OS X on a different volume, your address book will not be imported.
If your previous home folder still exists, you can copy your old Address Book files to the new system.
WARNING: The following procedure deletes the address book on your new system, and any contact information you've added will be lost. To recover newly added contacts, export them as a vCard first, then reimport them after recovering your old address book.
To import your old address book to the new system:
- Quit Address Book.
- Locate the ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/ folder in your previous home folder.
- Copy that folder to the same location in your new home folder, replacing the AddressBook folder there.
NOTE: This procedure only works if your previous home folder was in Mac OS X v10.2 or later.
