Setting an alarm on your iPod for a calendar event
An iPod with software version 1.2 or later can remind you of calendar events that you scheduled in iCal, or other application programs that work with industry-standard iCalendar and vCalendar files, including Microsoft Entourage, Microsoft Outlook, and Palm Desktop 4.0 or later.
How to Create and Export an Event
If you use iCal and iSync, just add iPod to the list of devices in iSync, and sync it with your calendar.
If you don't use iSync, follow these steps:
Alarm Settings
To turn on the alarm feature:

On
iPod will sound an alarm you can hear (but not through the headphones), and a message will appear on the screen.
Silent
iPod only displays a message on the screen.
Off
There is no notification when an alarm goes off.
How to Create and Export an Event
If you use iCal and iSync, just add iPod to the list of devices in iSync, and sync it with your calendar.
If you don't use iSync, follow these steps:
- Use your scheduling application to create an event. Make sure you turn on the "remind" or "alarm" feature for this event.
- Export the event as an iCalendar or vCalendar file. See the documentation that came with your application. In most cases, you can simply drag the event to the desktop.
- Make sure iPod is set up to be used as a hard disk you can store files on and connect iPod to your computer.
- Drag the iCalendar or vCalendar file to iPod's Calendars folder.
- Eject iPod using iTunes, or from the Finder or Windows task bar.
- Unplug the cable. iPod starts up.
Alarm Settings
To turn on the alarm feature:
- Select Settings from the main menu.
- Select Alarms from the Settings menu.
- Press the Select button to switch the setting between its three states: On, Silent, and Off.
