Vertical marks on PowerBook or iBook display

Because of the Apple portables' slim profile and light weight, you may see small vertical marks on the display where the edge of the keycaps touch the glass of the display.

These marks are the result of the edges of the keycaps on the keyboard touching the glass that covers the display due to the tight tolerances required by the slim profile and light weight of the PowerBook or iBook computers. These marks are not permanent and can be removed by gently wiping off the display with a clean cloth. Periodically wiping off the keyboard and display will reduce the visibility of any marks on the display screen.

If the keyboard in your PowerBook or iBook has been lifted up to install RAM or an AirPort card (or for any other reason), check to make sure that the keyboard is properly seated. When reinstalling the keyboard make sure all the tabs on the lower edge are fully inserted into their corresponding slots. The instructions on how to remove and replace the keyboard are available in the memory replacement instructions for each computer.

Note: PowerBook G4 (12-inch), (12-inch DVI), (12-inch 1.33GHz), (12-inch 1.5GHz), (15-inch FW 800), (15-inch 1.5/1.33GHz), (15-inch 1.67/1.5GHz), (17-inch), (17-inch 1.33GHz), (17-inch 1.5GHz) and PowerBook G4 (17-inch 1.67GHz) computers do not install RAM through the keyboard. For the PowerBook G4 (12-inch), see "PowerBook G4 (12-inch): Customer Installable Parts". For the others, see "PowerBook G4 (17-inch): Customer Installable Parts".
